Why Nigeria Didn't Beat 2020 Olympics Medal Record - Minister of Sports

Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh has said that Team Nigeria was able to win two medals at the 2020 Olympics because the then Sports Minister, Sunday Dare had two years to prepare the athletes, BSNSports.com.ng can report.

Speaking on Morning Show on Arise TV on Wednesday morning, Enoh lamented that he has just spent a year in office which according to him is not enough to get the athletes ready for podium finish at the Olympic Games.

He said, " the Olympics has come and gone, very sadly, I was looking at the past Olympics and I was quick to also find out that the Minister that I took over from had a luxury of spending two years before participating in the Olympics while I spent just one year before the event.

That luxury came because of Covid 19 and from 2020 it (the 2020 Olympic Games )was moved to 2021.

Team Nigeria failed to win any medal at the 2024 Olympics in France while Nigeria won two medals (silver and bronze) at the 2020 Olympics.

Nigeria competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the nation made its debut in 1952, Nigerian athletes have appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games, with the exception of the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal because of the African boycott.

In the 2020 Olympics, Blessing Oborodudu won silver medal in women's wrestling 68kg freestyle on August 3rd while Ese Brume on the same day won bronze in women's long jump.
