Why Nigerian Leagues Didn't Start in August - NFF

The Nigeria Football Federation NFF) President, Ibrahim Gusau has said that the engagement with the sponsors was the reason the leagues could not kick off in August as scheduled, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Gusau while responding to questions from media in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday 14th November, 2023 said, "We couldn't start the league as scheduled in August because of engagement with sponsors. It was we at the board that decided that the league must be on TV. 

He continued, "For instance, the NFF were able to seal a deal to show two games on TV, then four and eight matches on StarTimes. Propel Company is streaming eight matches on each Matchday. This is done for all Nigerians across the world to watch the Nigeria Premier Football League. We made sure that we signed a contract that are beneficial to the league and Nigerians. So, we were able to have due diligence and that's why it took a long time. That's why it got to September before we can commence the league. I said it is mandatory to see all the tiers of the league commence with a sponsor."
