Why Sports Federations Won't Get Budget Allocation For 2024 - Minister of Sports
By Niyi Busari
Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh has revealed that over 30 Sports Federations in Nigeria will not be able to get their annual budget allocation to finance their sporting activities because the money has been spent on the 2023 All African Games held in Ghana, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Enoh made this revelation during the Media Parley with Sports Writers in Abuja at the Moshood Abiola Stadium.
"2024 Sports Federations budget which is captured under sporting activities in the Ministry's budget have been spent on All African Games." Minister told www.bsnsports.com.ng
He continued, "The implication is that we have to run the rest of 2024 without funding for the federations. This, of course, is different from the budget for Olympics qualification which covers expenses on their qualification games for the 2024 Olympics.
"There is no sports federation that did not get funds for Olympics Games qualifier because you have to compete before qualification." He concluded.
At the 2023 All African Games, Team Nigeria secured a second-place finish in the final medal table with 120 medals (47 gold, 33 silver, and 40 bronze).
