Why Victor Osimhen Was Substituted in Nigeria’s World Cup Play-off

Victor Osimhen’s unexpected withdrawal before halftime in Nigeria’s decisive FIFA World Cup play-off clash against DR Congo raised immediate concern among supporters. The Super Eagles’ star striker, who had been instrumental throughout the qualification campaign, struggled to make an impact in the opening 45 minutes against the Leopards’ strong defensive setup.

Although early speculation suggested coach Eric Chelle might have made a tactical decision replacing Osimhen with Akor Adams reports later indicated that the Galatasaray forward was suffering from stomach discomfort, prompting the substitution.

The situation became more alarming after a video published by Turkish outlet Le Marca Spors showed Osimhen hobbling off at halftime, visibly in pain. With the striker reportedly valued at around €75 million, the footage sparked worry among both Nigerian fans and Galatasaray officials.

Supporters now await official updates, as any significant injury could impact Galatasaray’s season and Nigeria’s World Cup hopes.
