Why We Invested More Than ₦20m On Obasa Games -Abdul-Ganiyu

The Chief Executive Officer of Kings Sports International, Abdul-Ganiyu Vinod Obasa has explained the reasoning behind the Local Organizing Committee's investment of over ₦20 million in prizes for athletes participating in the 2024 Obasa Games, reports BSNSports.com.ng.

The sports event, which is generating excitement in the Lagos West Senatorial District, kicked off with more than 500 athletes competing across five sports.

Abdul-Ganiyu, the chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "I'm thrilled that the 2024 Obasa Games has officially begun with the football event. Organizing this event has been a challenge, as I pay attention to every detail in my work.

"The first game has started, and I eagerly await the final day. From December 2nd to 6th, we will shift our focus to the indoor games at the Agege Stadium, featuring boxing, table tennis, scrabble, and chess.

"In total, we have 132 athletes competing in each of the four indoor sports, with both male and female participants. This means over 500 youths have come together to showcase their talents on the canvas, table, or board.

"We have increased the prize money to enhance competitiveness and ensure that the best athletes win. For the football event alone, the prize is over ₦3 million, while for boxing, table tennis, chess, and scrabble, the winners will share ₦1 million, allocated as ₦500,000, ₦300,000, and ₦200,000 respectively.

 "This initiative has generated excitement among the athletes. The competition is strictly for those under 19, both male and female, allowing everyone to participate and potentially win. Who knows, Christmas might come early for any athlete who triumphs.

"My sincere advice to the competitors in the 2024 Obasa Games is to embody the spirit of sportsmanship, unity, and respect, as these are the core values of our championship.

"Our goal for the 2024 Obasa Games is to discover talent that will rise to prominence and eventually represent Lagos State and Nigeria in the Olympics."

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa praised Abdul-Ganiyu for his efforts and committed to making the Obasa Games an annual event.

He emphasized that the Games would expand beyond the borders of Lagos West Senatorial District to provide more opportunities for athletes.
