Super Eagles assistant coach Daniel Ogunmodede has said the team’s victory over the Black Galaxies of Ghana was a befitting Christmas and New Year gift to Nigerians, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Nigeria defeated rivals Ghana 3-1 in Uyo on Saturday to secure a place at the 2024 African Nations Championship.
The biennial competition will be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
The Eagles will be making a return to the competition designed for players plying their trade in their country's domestic leagues for the first time in six years.
Ogunmodede said it was important to make Nigerians happy at this period of the year, and they are delighted to put smiles on their faces.
“I’m happy for today’s win. I’m happy for the country, Nigeria, and I’m happy for Nigerians’ solidarity. It’s a Yuletide and New Year gift to Nigerians,” he said after the game.
“We want our people to be happy, and I’m delighted that we’ve given them something to celebrate during the Yuletide and New Year.”
