Nigerian table tennis sensation Taiwo Mati has declared that he is physically and mentally prepared for the upcoming World Table Tennis Championships scheduled to take place in London, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Nigeria, ranked second in Africa and 26th globally in the team event, will head to London aiming to improve on their disappointing outing at the 2024 edition held in South Korea.

With the global tournament just weeks away, the 20-year-old is optimistic about making a strong impression on his debut appearance, while also acknowledging the challenge posed by a tough group.

“I’m positive and looking forward to participating in the tournament and giving my best for the team,” Mati told Flashscore in an interview.

“This is going to be a team event, not like the regular singles World Championship, and it will be my first time playing at the World Team Championships.

“So far, so good. I’ve been preparing well, playing a lot of matches and doing a lot of physical exercises. I’ve also been speaking with my psychologist, and I’m sure that will help me a lot.

“I’m preparing really well and, talking about the mental aspect, I’m in a good state and mentally fit.”

Mati is expected to play a key role as Nigeria seeks a stronger showing on the international stage.
