Nigeria's female athletes set to represent the country at the upcoming World Championships in Tokyo have discreetly undergone the mandatory gene testing, in compliance with World Athletics' directive, ahead of the September 1st deadline, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

In March, World Athletics, the governing body of the sport, approved the introduction of this test to verify the biological sex of athletes.

A high-ranking official from the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) confirmed the completion of the gene tests for the athletes, speaking on condition of anonymity.

"Our female athletes heading to the World Championships in Tokyo have completed the gene testing," the official said.

"Due to the confidentiality of the process, I cannot disclose who underwent the test, nor can I share specific details about when or where the testing took place. However, I can assure you that the AFN is fully committed to adhering to the World Athletics guidelines", he told Nation correspondent.
