World-Class Facilities, Full Allowances Lift Team Nigeria, Says Ashe

Nigerian sprinter Favour Ashe has praised the National Sports Commission (NSC) for providing what he described as a world-class training environment for Team Nigeria ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Ashe also disclosed that all athletes in camp have received their allowances in full, describing the development as a major boost to the team's preparations for the Games.

"The camp has been excellent. Our allowances have been paid in full, the facilities are world-class, and the feeding is of a very high standard. The National Sports Commission has done a fantastic job in ensuring we have everything we need to prepare for the Commonwealth Games," Ashe said.

The sprint star noted that the conducive environment has enabled athletes to concentrate fully on training without the distraction of unresolved welfare concerns.

His remarks reinforce similar comments made earlier by former world and Olympic wrestling champion Daniel Igali, who commended the NSC leadership for prioritising athletes' welfare during the team's build-up to the Games.

Under the leadership of Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director-General Bukola Olopade, the NSC has placed significant emphasis on athlete welfare as part of Nigeria's preparations for Glasgow. Team Nigeria also arrived in the United Kingdom well ahead of the competition to allow athletes adequate time to acclimatise.

Ashe's endorsement reflects the growing optimism within Team Nigeria's camp as the country puts the finishing touches to its preparations for the Commonwealth Games. Nigerian athletes are expected to compete strongly across athletics, weightlifting, boxing and para sports as they target podium finishes in Glasgow.
