World Cup 2026: CAF President Reacts To Performance Of African Teams

President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has expressed satisfaction with the performances of African representatives at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup following their impressive displays in their opening matches, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Motsepe commended the efforts of Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt, and Cape Verde, describing their performances as a source of pride for the African continent.

"We are proud of the efforts by Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt and Cape Verde at the FIFA World Cup 2026 during their opening matches," Motsepe said.

The Elephants of Côte d'Ivoire began their campaign on a positive note with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ecuador to boost their chances of progressing to the knockout stage.

Cape Verde also impressed in their World Cup debut, holding European champions Spain to a goalless draw through a resilient defensive performance.

Seven-time African champions Egypt equally earned plaudits after battling to a 1-1 draw against Belgium in a spirited display.

The encouraging results have raised hopes of a strong showing by African teams at the tournament, with CAF leadership optimistic that the continent's representatives can continue to make their mark on the global stage.
