World Cup 2026: Hakimi Thanks Africa For Support After Morocco Reaches Round Of 16

Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi has expressed gratitude to football fans across Africa following the Atlas Lions' dramatic qualification for the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The North African side secured their place in the knockout stage after edging the Netherlands 3-2 in a penalty shootout in the early hours of Tuesday, following a fiercely contested encounter.

Speaking after the victory, Hakimi dedicated the achievement to African supporters, acknowledging the backing the team has received throughout the tournament.

"We represent African football and we play for them. We thank all the fans for their support always. We play for them. We saw a lot of Mexicans in the stadium supporting us too, and we thank them," Hakimi said.

Morocco's victory keeps alive Africa's hopes at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as the Atlas Lions continue their impressive campaign with a place in the Round of 16.
