World Cup 2026: Shooting Rocks Ivory Coast Camp

A shooting incident in the vicinity of the Côte d’Ivoire national team’s hotel briefly raised security concerns at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday, though officials confirmed the squad was unaffected and remains safe, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Local authorities reported that an unidentified suspect opened fire, wounding two individuals in an area near a hospital zone close to the Ivorian delegation’s accommodation.

 The suspect fled the scene and remains at large, prompting police to cordon off the surrounding area and launch an intensified manhunt.

The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) moved swiftly to reassure fans and stakeholders, issuing a statement that the incident had “no connection whatsoever” to the Côte d’Ivoire team or its World Cup activities.

“All players, technical staff, and officials are safe and accounted for,” the federation said. 

“Our preparations for the upcoming matches continue without interruption.”

The FIF also extended thanks to FIFA and U.S. security agencies for their rapid response and ongoing support, emphasizing that the team’s focus remains squarely on its tournament campaign.

Police have urged the public to remain vigilant while search operations continue.

Côte d’Ivoire officials said the team is determined to stay concentrated on its sporting objectives despite the external disturbance.
