Ahead of the crucial World Cup playoff final against DR Congo, Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has expressed his disappointment over the suspension of midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Nigeria will take on the Leopards without the influential Besiktas star, who is ruled out after picking up a yellow card in the semi-final victory over Gabon.
Speaking about the situation, Chelle admitted that Ndidi’s absence is a big blow but insisted the team has enough quality to cope.
“Ndidi is an important player for us. His experience, ability, and leadership on the pitch are important for this team,” Chelle said.
“But we will manage the situation. We have a large squad of players and we will make changes.”
The coach further revealed that despite being unavailable for the match, Ndidi will remain with the squad to motivate his teammates.
“Ndidi is still here with us and will support the team mentally and with his presence,” he added.
Nigeria will be hoping to seal qualification with victory over DR Congo in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
