South Africa’s Sports Minister, Gayton McKenzie, has heaped praise on Nigeria’s Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, describing him as a model professional and a positive example for African footballers, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Osimhen was instrumental in Nigeria’s semi-final victory over Gabon, scoring twice to secure the Super Eagles’ passage to the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers play-offs scheduled for Sunday.

Speaking to renowned journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, McKenzie expressed deep admiration for the Galatasaray forward, applauding his commitment and attitude.

“Victor Osimhen is truly one of the best players. He is a great example of what needs to change for African players,” he said.

The minister stressed the need for African players to emulate Osimhen’s humility, work ethic, and dedication to national duty rather than focusing on social media validation.

“We have the wrong type of ego in some players. This player is playing for his country and not for Instagram and likes. I admire him greatly,” McKenzie added.

Osimhen continues to receive global praise not just for his performances on the pitch but also for his leadership and passion for Nigerian football.

Nigeria will face DR Congo in Rabat on Sunday in a decisive clash as they seek a ticket to the World Cup.
