World Cup Qualifier: D’Tigers Captain Opens Up On Defeat To Tunisia

Nigeria’s D’Tigers captain, Ike Nwamu, has revealed the major reasons behind their narrow defeat to Tunisia in the 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifying series, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Despite a spirited performance, the Nigerian men’s basketball team fell in overtime to the North African side, who capitalised on key errors from the visitors to secure the win.

Speaking after the game, Nwamu attributed the loss to a lack of proper organisation and insufficient time spent together as a team ahead of the qualifiers.

 “I think we lost because of lack of action and we don’t really have time to be together,” he said.

The skipper also reflected on their struggles with turnovers, which proved costly in the final stretch.

 “We had a lot of turnovers in the AfroBasket qualifiers, and now we lost the game again because of lack of organisation,” he continued.

Nwamu, however, expressed optimism that the team would improve as they continue to build chemistry.

“It’s like a new team and we are still trying to know each other, and hopefully the game against Guinea will be better,” he added.

D’Tigers will face Guinea next as they seek to bounce back and reignite their World Cup qualification hopes.
