World Cup Qualifier: Lower Ranked Sierra Leone Beat Nigeria

By Admin

The Nigeria U19 Cricket team, Junior Yellow Greens, squandered a clear chance to sit atop the table on Monday when they were defeated by the lower-ranked Sierra Leone team by 9 wickets.

Sierra Leone's Junior Patriots did not expect to thrash Nigeria by such a large margin, despite dominating the game from the first innings to the last. Sierra Leone is presently at the top of the table with two points, while Nigeria is at the bottom with none.

Because of the rain on the first day, Namibia, Kenya, Uganda, and host Tanzania all shared a point.

The Junior Patriots won the toss and chose to field first at the University of Dar es Salaam stadium. George Sesay demoralized Nigerian batters as he dismissed them at will. Nigeria could only make out 73 runs and all out.

The second inning was still not business as usual for the West African giant, Nigeria as Raymond Cooker of Sierra Leone and two of his countrymen ended the game at 74 runs in 17.5 overs. They lost only one wicket, and sent a strong message for Nigeria to sit up in subsequent games with tougher opponents.

Nigerian Coach, Danlandi Gim promised fans that the boys will step up their performance in subsequent games. He observed that the boys did not give their best and took the wrong approach in the match.
