World Cup Qualifier: Senegal Faces Trouble As Sudan Petitions FIFA

Senegal's hopes of qualifying for the World Cup could take a major hit after Sudan officially petitioned FIFA over an alleged rule violation, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The two teams played to a goalless draw on Saturday, but the Sudanese Football Federation has filed a complaint regarding Senegal’s use of Assane Diao.

The protest centers on FIFA’s regulation requiring a three-year waiting period before a player can switch national teams.

Diao, who previously represented Spain’s U21 squad, entered the match in the 79th minute as a substitute for Ismaila Sarr.

If FIFA rules in Sudan’s favour, Senegal could forfeit the match and lose all three points, significantly damaging their qualification chances.

Currently, Senegal sits third in their qualifying group.
