World Cup Qualifier Fallout: Zimbabwe Fires Coach
Sampson Adedeji
Following a disappointing campaign in the just-concluded 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has relieved head coach Michael Nees of his duties, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Warriors endured a miserable run in the qualifiers, finishing bottom of their group without a single win in ten matches a performance that left fans and officials frustrated.
Nees, who took charge of the team with high expectations, struggled to inspire consistent results despite boasting several experienced players in his squad.
His dismissal comes barely two months before the start of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), leaving ZIFA with the urgent task of appointing a new manager to lead the team into the continental showpiece.
Sources within the federation revealed that discussions are already underway to identify a suitable replacement as Zimbabwe seeks to rebuild ahead of the AFCON.
