World Cup Qualifiers: D’Tigress Make FIBA’s 24-Team List

African champions, D’Tigress, have been named among the 24 teams set to compete in the FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifying tournaments scheduled for March next year, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The final lineup for the qualifiers was determined over the weekend following the conclusion of all women’s continental championships.

D’Tigress will represent Africa alongside Mali, Senegal, and South Sudan the other semifinalists from the AfroBasket tournament, which Nigeria won on Sunday.

From the Americas, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Puerto Rico, and the USA the top six teams from the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup will feature, while Asia and Oceania will be represented by Australia, China, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, and the Philippines, who all finished among the top six at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Asia Cup.

World Cup 2026 hosts Germany will also participate, joined by the Czech Republic and Hungary, winners of the pre-qualifying tournaments held in August 2024 in Kigali, Rwanda, and Mexico City, Mexico.

Europe’s contingent includes Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, and Turkey. According to FIBA, the 24 teams will compete for 16 available spots at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin.

With hosts Germany and continental champions already qualified, 11 slots remain up for grabs.

The global qualifying tournaments will take place from March 11–17, 2026, featuring six teams in each of the four groups. The top finishers will advance to join the already qualified sides in Germany for the World Cup.
