Team Nigeria’s mixed 4x100m relay team delivered a strong performance at the ongoing World Relays in Gaborone, Botswana, finishing fourth in Heat 1 and securing qualification for the 2027 World Championships in China, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Nigerian quartet of Favour Ashe, Jennifer Chukwuka-Obi, Chidera Ezeakor and Maria Thompson clocked an impressive 40.24 seconds in a highly competitive race.

Nigeria looked set to challenge for victory heading into the final exchange before eventually crossing the line behind Canada, Germany and the Netherlands.

Despite finishing fourth, their time was enough to book a place at next year’s World Championships and also set a new African Record in the mixed 4x100m relay event.

Canada claimed first place with a sensational World Record time of 40.07 seconds, while Germany finished second in 40.15 seconds and the Netherlands placed third in 40.20 seconds.

The result represents another significant achievement for Nigerian athletics as Team Nigeria continues to make its mark at the World Relays in Botswana.
