Xabi Alonso has refused to blame Augustine Eguavoen and his backroom staff from Victor Boniface's injury, as he quietly criticized the Super Eagles striker for not taking precautions after feeling slight pains in his thigh during the 2025 AFCON qualifying game against Rwanda in Uyo. BSNSports.com.ng gathered from German daily Kicker, that Boniface didn't go into the AFCON match injured nor kept his problems secret from national coach Eguavoen. The 42-year-old Spaniard explained the proceedings: "No, he had no problems after the Bochum game. In the first game for Nigeria he played for 15 minutes, in the second he felt something after 60 minutes and continued playing. Maybe he shouldn't have done that." Bayer 04 will have to do without Boniface for the time being. "He will miss a few games. We will see how long," said Xabi Alonso on Friday at the press conference. Boniface has now been rules out the match against FC Heidenheim, and the game against Salzburg on Tuesday in the Champions League.
