Yahaya Lawali Bags Two Consecutive MOTM Awards In Algeria

By Gbenga Gboyega

The Golden Eaglets assistant captain and right-back, Yahaya Lawali is covering himself in glory by clinching the Man Of the Match awards for two games in a row at the ongoing U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Algeria, reports BSNSports.com.ng.

The 16-year-old defender and academy recruit from the Abuja-based Mahanaim Football Club in Nigeria is currently bursting through the waves, drawing attention and plaudits from viewers, and stakeholders of the game.

Yahaya has played every minute for the Eaglets so far, coming from the right side of the defense, and churning out impressive performances that catch the eye.

According to Google's Player ratings, Yahaya completed 41 passes in the first game against Zambia, and 28 passes in the loss to Morocco, delivering in defense and also supporting in the attack.

What makes him special is his versatility as a right-back, full-back, or Winger, making him a utility player for Coach Nduka Ugbade, who seemed impressed with his assistant captain from the dugout.

The team has conceded only once thus far, partly down to Yahaya and the defense setup, alongside the Center-Back paring of Jeremiah Olaleke and Tochukwu Ogboji, and Emmanuel Michael in Left-Back.

This development gives hope for the future on the right side of play for the Super Eagles, with the likes of Bright Osayi-Samuel and Ola Aina currently occupying that position in the Senior team.

Keep the flag Golden Lawali! Bsnsports.com.ng writes.
