Yobe Desert Stars, Osun United Lead Groups After Day 2 of NNL Super 8 Playoffs

Yobe Desert Stars and Osun United have emerged as group leaders in the 2025 Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 Playoffs after the second round of matches held on Monday in Asaba, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Both teams sit atop their respective groups with four points from two games, positioning themselves as early favorites for promotion as the playoff tournament progresses.
Group A Update
Group A, initially marked by a series of stalemates on the opening matchday, saw its first decisive outcome on Monday. Yobe Desert Stars secured a crucial 2–1 victory over Doma United, putting them in pole position with four points. The other group match between Barau FC and Wikki Tourists ended in another goalless draw, leaving both clubs with two points apiece, while Doma United trails with one.
Group B Progress
In Group B, Osun United continued their strong start, building on their opening 2–0 win over Warri Wolves with a 1–1 draw against Crown FC. The result places Osun at the summit with four points. Warri Wolves bounced back from their initial loss with a commanding 3–0 victory over Kun Khalifa, moving into joint second with three points. Kun Khalifa also has three points after an earlier win against Crown FC, who remain at the bottom of the group with just one point.
Final Group Matches Ahead
The final round of group stage fixtures will be held on July 10 and 11. In Group A, all four teams remain mathematically in contention for qualification. Yobe Desert Stars face Wikki Tourists, while Barau FC will clash with Doma United on Wednesday, July 10, at 9:00 AM.
Group B concludes on Thursday, July 11, with Kun Khalifa taking on Osun United, and Warri Wolves squaring off against Crown FC. Both matches are also scheduled for 9:00 AM.
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the NNL playoff finals, which will determine promotion to the top tier of Nigerian football.
