Yohanna Begins Brighton Journey After Record-Breaking Transfer

Nigerian teenager Zadok Yohanna has resumed training with Brighton & Hove Albion as he continues to settle into life at the Premier League club following his high-profile summer transfer, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Footage shared on social media showed the 18-year-old participating in reaction drills and team training sessions at Brighton's training facility, while also taking time to interact with supporters by signing autographs after training.

Yohanna joined Brighton from Swedish side AIK Fotboll in a deal worth an initial €28 million (£24.2 million), with a further €2 million (£1.8 million) in performance-related add-ons. The transfer set a new record as the highest fee ever received by a Swedish club for a player, surpassing the previous benchmark established by Lucas Bergvall's move from Djurgarden to Tottenham Hotspur in 2024.

The talented forward's rise has been rapid. After leaving Ikon Allah Football Academy in Kaduna for Sweden just over a year ago, Yohanna quickly established himself as one of AIK's most promising talents. He registered five goals and four assists in 18 senior appearances across the Allsvenskan and Svenska Cupen, attracting interest from several Premier League clubs, including Chelsea and Newcastle United.

Brighton ultimately secured his signature, making him the club's first acquisition of the summer transfer window.

Head coach Fabian Hurzeler has expressed confidence in Yohanna's potential but emphasised the importance of allowing the teenager time to adapt to the demands of English football.

"He's still young and will need time to adapt to the club and the Premier League, but he's an exciting player to watch, and he brings the kind of creativity we know our fans will enjoy," Hurzeler said.

Yohanna has signed a five-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 2031. He is expected to fully integrate with the first-team squad during preseason preparations as he seeks to establish himself in Hurzeler's plans for the 2026/27 campaign.

With expectations growing around one of Nigeria's brightest young prospects, the coming months could provide the first glimpse of Yohanna's potential on the Premier League stage.
