Super Eagles left-back Zaidu Sanusi has welcomed his international teammate Terem Moffi to FC Porto following the striker’s loan move from French side Nice, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Sanusi, who was part of Nigeria’s squad that secured a bronze medal at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, was on hand on Saturday to receive Moffi at the Portuguese club.

The 26-year-old striker completed a season-long loan move to Porto, with the club holding an option to make the transfer permanent for a reported fee of €8 million. The deal was finalised on Friday after both clubs reached an agreement earlier in the week.

Moffi’s move brings an end to a challenging period in France. The former Lorient forward had been on medical leave since November 30 following incidents involving Nice supporters.

Porto reportedly beat off competition from several clubs, including Turkish side Besiktas, which was prepared to offer the Nigerian a higher salary. Interest was also shown by teams in France and Scotland.

Moffi made his Super Eagles debut in 2021 and announced himself on the international stage with two goals in a 10–0 victory over São Tomé and Príncipe in 2022.

He was later called up to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as a replacement for the injured Victor Boniface, helping Nigeria reach the final, where they finished runners-up after losing to hosts Ivory Coast.
