Zambia Skipper Barbra Banda Scrores Historic FIFA WWC Goal

The captain of the Zambian Women's national team - Barbra Banda, has made history at the ongoing FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, by netting the tournament's 1000th goal since 1991, BSNSports.com.ng writes.

The 23-year-old Shanghai Shengli forward who plies her club trade in the Chinese Women's Super League, scored from the penalty spot in the 31st minute to double Zambia's lead over their group C opponents - Costa Rica.

In opening her account in the tournament, Barbra set a personal and infinite record on the global stage by netting the 1000th goal scored in the FIFA Women's World Cup since its inception 32 years ago.

Former Chinese international, Ma Li, currently 54 years old, opened the account of the Women's World Cup back in 1991 on the 16th of November in a 4-0 win over Norway, with the competition now surpassing a millennium of goals in its 9th edition.

Zambia failed to qualify for the knockout stages in Australia and New Zealand after falling in humiliating fashion against Spain and Japan in their opening games, before drawing succor from their 1-3 win over Costa Rica in the third game.

However, pleasantries are in order as the Copper Queens celebrate their skipper and striker for the historic feat.
