The 2025 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations commenced with a tightly contested Group C encounter between Zambia and Sierra Leone, culminating in a 0-0 stalemate. Both teams showcased defensive solidity, making it challenging for either side to break the deadlock.

This match marked Sierra Leone’s debut in the U-20 AFCON finals, having secured qualification alongside Senegal as representatives of the WAFU A Zone. Their journey to the finals was solidified after finishing as runners-up in the regional qualifiers held in Liberia.

In the tournament’s opening fixture, host nation Egypt narrowly defeated South Africa 1-0, thanks to Ahmed Khaled’s decisive goal in the 54th minute. This victory places Egypt at the top of Group B, which also features formidable opponents Nigeria and Morocco.

The 2025 U-20 AFCON serves as a crucial platform for young talents across the continent, with the top four teams earning qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile. As the tournament progresses, teams will aim to secure their spots in the knockout stages and vie for continental glory.
