Zimbabwe Bounce Back to Defeat India in Unity Cup Third-Place Playoff

Zimbabwe secured a third-place finish at the 2026 Unity Cup after edging India 1-0 in the playoff match played on Saturday afternoon in London, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The encounter, which kicked off at 2:30 p.m., saw the Warriors bounce back from their opening defeat to Nigeria to claim a consolation victory and end their campaign on a positive note.

The decisive moment came in the 35th minute when forward Prince Dube calmly converted a penalty kick, giving Zimbabwe a lead they successfully protected until the final whistle.

Zimbabwe entered the match following a 2-0 loss to Nigeria in the semi-finals, while India were also seeking redemption after suffering an identical 2-0 defeat to Jamaica in their opening fixture.

Despite India's efforts to find an equaliser in the second half, Zimbabwe's defence remained resolute, ensuring Dube's strike proved enough to separate the two sides.

The result handed Zimbabwe third place in the four-nation invitational tournament, while India concluded their campaign without a victory.

Attention now shifts to the tournament final, where Super Eagles will face Jamaica in a highly anticipated showdown scheduled for 7:30 p.m. later on Saturday.

Nigeria head into the final as defending champions, having lifted the Unity Cup title in 2025 after defeating Jamaica 4-2 in a penalty shootout following a closely contested final.
