Zimbabwe Suffer Injury Setback Before Unity Cup Opener Against Nigeria
By BSN Sports
Zimbabwe international defender Brendan Galloway is expected to miss the upcoming Unity Cup after failing to recover in time from injury, dealing an early setback to the Warriors ahead of the invitational tournament in London, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The experienced left-back had been tipped to play a key role for Zimbabwe during the competition but has now been ruled out after medical assessments confirmed he would not regain fitness in time for the tournament.
Galloway’s absence comes in the first assignment for newly appointed Zimbabwe head coach Kaitano Tembo, who recently took charge of the national team.
Zimbabwe are scheduled to face Nigeria in the opening semi-final of the Unity Cup at The Valley on May 26, with the winner progressing to the final.
The tournament is expected to provide Zimbabwe’s technical team with an important opportunity to evaluate player combinations and assess both locally-based and foreign-based talent ahead of future international commitments.
