Zimbabwe To Host African Schools Continental Championship

Zimbabwe is set to return to the continental spotlight after being confirmed as host of the upcoming African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The tournament, organised by the Confederation of African Football, will take place in Harare from April 2 to April 10, 2026, marking the country’s first time hosting a CAF event in over six years.

The competition will feature some of the best school teams from across the continent in both the boys’ and girls’ categories, highlighting emerging talents and promoting grassroots football development in Africa.

In the girls’ category, host nation Zimbabwe will compete alongside defending champions Ghana, Burkina Faso, Morocco, Guinea, Tanzania, Zambia, and DR Congo.

The boys’ tournament will see Zimbabwe face reigning champions Tanzania, as well as Benin, Morocco, Senegal, Uganda, Zambia, and DR Congo.

More teams from other African federations are expected to join the tournament through invitations, further strengthening the quality and competitiveness of the championship.

The initiative continues to receive significant backing from the Motsepe Foundation, which has already committed an initial $10 million towards prize money.

 The investment is aimed at boosting grassroots football and providing young talents across Africa with greater opportunities to develop and showcase their abilities on a continental stage.

The African Schools Football Championship has grown into a key platform for nurturing future stars, and Zimbabwe’s hosting is expected to further elevate the profile of the competition.
