The Head Coach of Nigeria’s U20 men’s national team, the Flying Eagles, Aliyu Zubair, has been appointed as the new manager of Telecom Egypt SC, a club competing in the Egyptian Second Division League, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Zubair, who led Nigeria to the FIFA U20 World Cup earlier this year in Chile, was officially unveiled by the club’s management at a ceremony held at their headquarters in Cairo. The 44-year-old tactician signed a two-year contract with the Egyptian side.
Before taking charge of the Flying Eagles, Zubair built an impressive résumé at club level, guiding Gombe United (2021) and Elkanemi Warriors (2024) to promotion from Nigeria’s second-tier league to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
He also steered El-kanemi Warriors to victory in the 2024 President Federation Cup, one of Nigeria’s most prestigious domestic competitions, a feat he had previously achieved as an assistant coach with Akwa United.
Zubair’s appointment underscores Telecom SC’s ambition to strengthen its technical team with experienced African coaches as it targets promotion to Egypt’s top division.
