Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has thanked Stuart Baxter-led Bafana Bafana over their win over Nigeria in the first group E match of 2019 African Nations Cup qualifiers held at Godswill Akpabio stadium, Uyo, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Franco-German tactician opined that the South African win was a wake up call that helped Eagles to humiliate Cameroon 4-0 in their Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

Rohr said that Super Eagles have been having a good run of form since then, though, he admitted that his team have lost only to two African countries since his arrival.

"The effect the loss to SA during the qualifiers helped us refocus and we were able to beat Cameroon 4-0 during the World Cup qualifiers.

"We have only ever lost twice to African Opposition since then & perhaps I have to thank Stuart Baxter for that," he concluded

The three-time African champions outscored Bafana Bafana 2-1 in their quarterfinal clash and picked the semifinal ticket.

One goal each from Man of The Match, Samuel Chukwueze and William Troost-Ekong in each half was all Nigeria needed to sneak to the semifinals of the 2019 African Nations Cup at the expenses of South Africa.
