AFCON 2019: Madagascar Loss, A Wake Up Call- Ighalo
By Niyi Busari
Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo admitted that the Nigeria senior national played poorly in their 0-2 loss to Madagascar in the last group B clash on Sunday at the ongoing 2019 African Cup of Nations, BSNSports.com.ng can report.
The Shenhua Shangai striker warned that the loss should serve as a wake up call for him and his teammates in their subsequent matches at the biennial tournament.
In his words: "I think this is a wake up call for us, today, we played very poorly, we were relaxed and our mentality was not very good.
He blamed the defeat on qualification for the second round before the encounter against Madagascar
"Probably it is because we were already qualified but this game has shown us that there is no easy team in this competition. We have to go back, regroup and ensure we do well for the next game which is a match with no room for mistakes."
Super Eagles finished group B as runners-up with 6 points while Madagascar topped the table with 7 points.
