AFCON 2019: Rohr still bitter about South Africa's goal, tags Algeria favourite

Despite securing a semifinal ticket, Nigeria's Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr is still bitter about the goal scored by Bafana Bafana of South Africa at the quarterfinal stage of the competition.

South Africa midfielder Bongani Zungu scored a controversial goal in the 71st minute with centre referee allowing the goal to stand despite consulting Video Assistant Referee ( VAR).

The Franco-German gaffer expressed his bitterness while speaking to BSNSports.com.ng in Egypt.

"Everybody believed Egypt is a favourite number one and when you beat favourite, you become a favourite, that was my opinion and is still my opinion.

"We one of the favourite and we are facing a team everyone believes they are the best from the group stage and they still a favourite.

We have four teams remaining in the competition and they are the best team in the tournament , when you see Senegal,Tunisia, and we are number think I think.

"We have two countries from North Africa and two from West Africa, best teams are here.

This AFCON is a tournament which is given good sign, the rival of the game is good.

Rohr insisted that the South African goals against Nigeria in the quarterfinals did not suppose to stand opined that Ighalo header was a deflection and not a pass .

"We only discuss this offside goal, some of the referee told me that it was a clear offside, the ball was a deflection from Ighalo not a pass, so the interpretation of the VAR is still very difficult," he concluded.
