Super Eagles and Derby County defender, Efe Ambrose has said that Nigeria is participating in the 2019 African Nations Cup as champions, adding that the country have not had the opportunity to defend the title they won in 2013, BSNSports.com.ng can report.
Efe Ambrose who played pivotal role in 2013 when former Super Eagles coach, late Stephen Keshi led the team to win the title for the third time in history opined that Eagles should see themselves as 'defending champion' as the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the last two editions.
In his own words; "Super Eagles are going to Egypt as defending champion because we have not had the opportunity to defend the title after we won it in 2013. Unfortunately, we missed out the last two editions." He told www.bsnsports.com.ng
He stated that the technical crews as well as the players should remain united and focus on the trophy which according to him will help Nigeria to win AFCON for the fourth time.
"One thing working for Super Eagles now is that the players and the technical crews are united. Now, the team should be focused on the trophy as they stand a good chance of winning it for the fourth time."
