AFCON 2021: "My Hands Are Tied" - Eguavoen Speaks On Invitation Of Home-based Players By Niyi Busari Super Eagles interim coach, Austin Eguavoen has said that he spoke with seven home based players with hope of inviting them to camp but he couldn't because his hands are tied, BSNSports.com.ng can report. Eguavoen while speaking with Super Eagles media stated that it doesn't make sense to him denying the players of playing for their clubs when they may not be in the final list to 2021 African Nations Cup. He, however assured the home based players that their time to play for the national team will come. "I still have their names about seven home based players we intend to invite and see them play but my hands are so tied that the League which started on 19 December is on and these players have to play in their teams. "No time for them to play in any friendly matches. It will be difficult for them to actually combine playing for their clubs on weekends and weekdays and also be in the national team camp. "I actually spoke with Tope Orelusi from Rangers, Afees from Kwara United, Uche from Rivers and couple of players but we have to submit a list. There's no time to actually see them play in friendly matches for assessment but hopefully they will still have a chance. "It really doesn't make sense to bring them now, deny them from playing for their club sides in midweek and weekend matches and when we are on the trip to Cameroon they go back home. It doesn't really make sense but their chance will come. Super Eagles of Nigeria will start their 2021 African Nations Cup campaign against Egypt on January 11 before playing against Sudan and Guinea Bissau on 15 and 19 January respectively in the second and last group games.
