AFCON 2021: CAF Agrees On Five Substitutions Sampson Adedeji Ahead of the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon, the African soccer governing body has agreed on the number of substitutions to be used during the matches, BSNsports.com.ng can report. The football body has due to Coronavirus decided to increase the number of players from 23 players to 28 to curb the effect of the pandemic. CAF on Saturday agreed that each team will be allowed to make 5 substitutions during each match in the tournament. CAF decided to follow UEFA who allowed the participating team of the Euro 2020 to make five replacements during matches. This will make it the first time 5 substitutions were allowed in the history of the tournament.
