AFCON 2021: CAF Name Algeria Referee For The Opening Game Sampson Adedeji Barely 24 hours to the commencement of the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon, the Council of referees in the confederation of African Football (CAF) has named match officials for the opening game, BSNsports.com.ng can report. The opening match which is scheduled for the Olembe stadium in Yaounde will be between the hosts, Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and Stallions of Burkina Faso. The African soccer governing body announced Algerian Mustapha Gharbal as the centre referee and he will assisted by his compatriots Mokrane Gourari (AR 1) and Abdelhak Ichali, appointed second (AR2). This will be the second time Cameroon will face Burkina Faso in the AFCON opening match, having faced them in 1998 when Burkina Faso hosted the competition and the game ended 0-1 in favour of Cameroon. The opening match of the 33rd edition of the biennial tournament is fixed for 5 pm Nigeria time.
