AFCON 2021: Calvin Bassey Eye Eagles Recall Sampson Adedeji Rangers of Scotland defender Calvin Bassey has set his eyes on the recall to the Super Eagles team ahead of the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon, BSNsports.com.ng can report. Although born in Italy, Bassey was able to represent his country of birth, England, or Nigeria at the international level. He chose to represent Nigeria having been called up for World Cup qualifiers in October. The 21-year-old hasn’t featured for Nigeria yet and missed out on their latest squad, but that hasn’t stopped him from eying up a spot in the upcoming Cup of Nations squad. The defender spoke to the media ahead of his club next match and responded after being asked if he would like to represent the Super Eagles in the new year. “Yeah of course,” said Bassey. “It’s always an honour to represent your country. The timings are a bit hard because we’ve got games but right now, I’m just fully focussed at the club.” “At the end of the day, if I do well here, that’s what helps me get called up to Nigeria, so I’m just focussed on the club and giving my best performance, taking each day as it comes. Whatever happens, when we get to that stage, we’ll look at it and see what’s best for me and take it from there,” he said. Bassey seems confident that if he performs well, he can receive a call-up to the biennial tournament.
