Former Cameroonian international Patrick Mboma has ignored Nigeria's Super Eagles and tipped defending champion Deserts Foxes of Algeria and Teranga Lions of Senegal as strong favourites for the 2021 African Cup of Nations title, BSNsports.com.ng can report.
Both teams met twice in the competition in 2019 ( Group Stage and Final) with Algeria winning on both occasions with a similar scoreline of 1-0, and Nigeria finishing in third position.
Speaking recently in Douala in the Littoral region during a visit as part of President Paul Biya’s imposed fact-finding mission on Cameroon’s readiness to host the continental football showpiece in Africa, Mboma said Algeria and Senegal are better placed nations to emerge winners of the coveted trophy based on their current forms and squad depth.
“Defending champions Algeria are favorites. After that, Senegal follows suit. I think they are the two strongest nations presently.” Mboma partly stated.
“Algeria has shown their strength with its invincibility series… Senegal has a big individual talents and I think Aliou Cisse (Senegal Head Coach) is capable of building a powerful collective squad," he said.
