AFCON 2021: Eguavoen Plays Down Favourite Tag Sampson Adedeji Interim Coach of Nigeria's Super Eagles, Austin Eguavoen, has played down favourite tag place on his team after a win in the first game, BSNsports.com.ng can report. Nigeria's Super Eagles proved all bookmakers wrong in the opening group match by beating one of the tournament favourites Pharaoh of Egypt. The amazing performance put up by the team made bookmakers tagged the team as on of the contender for the title. Eguavoen stated during a press conference that they just won a game against a strong team but that doesn't make them a contender. " It's hard to say that we are one of the favourites. We have only played one game. Egypt is the seven-time champion of Africa. They aren't pushovers, they have a strong side. Whoever thinks Egypt isn't strong could be making a big mistake. We were able to neutralize them and played very well. Tagging us as big favourites is too early. We would approach the next game with all seriousness and show Sudan respect. After crossing that hurdle, we will see what happens," he said.
