Egypt captain, Mohammed Salah has confirmed that the defeat they suffered in the opening group match against Nigeria's Super Eagles propelled them to victory against Guinea Bissau, BSNsports.com.ng can report.
The seven-time African champions were listed among the favourites to lift the 2021 African Cup of Nations but surprisingly lost narrowly their opening match to Nigeria.
They however bounced back to victory on Saturday in their second match against Guinea Bissau with Liverpool's striker and team captain, Mohammed Salah scoring the only goal of the game.
During a post-match reaction, Salah stated that the defeat warranted rearranging themselves for the upcoming games.
“We have a new coach and new generation. After the defeat against Nigeria, we had to rearrange ourselves.
“We will fight in this tough competition and believe in our chances and where we can go.”
“It was a really tough game and we were a little bit lucky with the foul,” Salah admitted to broadcasters at the end of the match.
“We have to win our next game now to make sure we qualify and we will do our best to go as far as we can in the tournament," he said.
