  AFCON 2021 Qualifiers: Sierra Leone Shouldn’t Give Us Sleepless Nights – Omorodion By Taofeek LAWAL As the 2021 AFCON qualifying matches resume across Africa later this month, top sports journalist, Patrick Omorodion, has said that Sierra Leone should pose no threat to Super Eagles’ qualification for 2021 AFCON to be hosted by Cameroon, BSNSports.com.ng reports. Omorodion said the match against Sierra Leone should be a no-brainer to the Super Eagles if the handlers of the senior national football team select players on merit. He said Nigeria should get maximum points against the Leone Stars while adding that with Nigeria’s pedigree in world football, the Super Eagles must stroll over their Sierra Leonean counterparts in any football game. His words, “As a serious country, we should be able to get maximum six points against Sierra Leone. Sierra Leone is not supposed to give us any headache. Sierra Leone is not Black Stars of Ghana; Sierra Leone is not Indomitable Lions of Cameroon that we should be having sleepless night over. But because of the way we select teams and the coaches did not need to favour any player because they want to sell such players to a team abroad; selection should always be on merit. It is the selection process that is killing us, if we select on merit, we should not be afraid of Sierra Leone anyday anytime. If we play 10 times against them, we should be able to win 10 times against Sierra Leone.” Omorodion frowned at the inclusion of Ahmed Musa saying his days in the Super Eagles are over as seen in his performances during the friendly matches against Algeria and Tunisia in October. He described Ighalo’s retirement from the national team as premature saying his contribution would have still be needed in the Super Eagles.
