Nigeria's Super Eagles interim coach, Austine Eguavoen, is on cloud nine following the qualification of his team for the second round of the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon, BSNsports.com.ng can report.
Goals from Samuel Chukwueze, Taiwo Awoniyi and Moses Simon ensured Nigeria passage to the Round of 16 after a slim win over Egypt in group D in Garoua.
During a post-match conference, the former Nigeria international expressed his happiness over the qualification adding that Sudan made the game difficult for them.
" We are happy with this victory, it’s good for us that we are into the second round after two games.
“After our first goal, the Sudanese came out smoking and make things difficult for us. I wouldn’t want to say it’s complacency.
”There are 24 teams here and there are chances for teams to make it to the second round. That makes Sudan give their all in the game.
“You know when you have your back against the wall, there is the tendency that you want to fight hard and make things difficult for the opponent," he said.
Nigeria next match is against Guinea Bissau on Wednesday at the Roumde Adjia Stadium in Garoua
