AFCON 2021: We Will Gladly Release Awoniyi - Union Berlin Coach Sampson Adedeji Manager of the German Bundesliga club Union Berlin Urs Fischers has stated that they will gladly release Nigeria international Taiwo Awoniyi for the upcoming 2021 African Cup of Nations, BSNsports.com.ng can report. Despite not making the lists of players that prosecuted the final rounds of the Qatar 2022 CAF World Cup qualifier against Liberia and Cape Verde, Awoniyi remained a strong candidate to make the final cut for the biennial tournament. Awoniyi joined the Berlin-based club this summer permanently from English premier league club Liverpool after a successful loan spell last season. Since the start of the season, former Royal Mouscron striker has been in amazing form which has seen him scoring 8 goals in 12 Bundesliga appearances. He continued his stellar performances on Sunday in a derby game against Herta Berlin as he netted the opening goal of the encounter. "We don’t worry about it and of course we have it on our radar. "What could be nicer than representing your colours? Even if he doesn’t help us, we would be happy for Taiwo," Fischer told German news outlet Berliner Kurier. If Awoniyi make the final list for the competition he will miss key games against Bayer Leverkusen, Borrusia Monchengladbach, Hoffenheim and Augsburg.
