AFCON 2021: Why Osimhen Was Left Out Of Eagles Squad - Eguavoen Sampson Adedeji Super Eagles interim coach Austin Eguavoen has said Napoli striker Victor Osimhen pleaded to be excused from the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon, BSNsports.com.ng can report. The energetic striker was among the 28 players invited for the tournament but has to withdraw due to health situation. While speaking to NFF TV, 'Cerezo' said Osimhen said is not fully fit and there is no way he could give 100 per cent if he attended the competition. "He told me that I had to understand that he was not well and that he did not want to participate in the Cup because he could not give 100%. It's a pity he can't participate - he told NFF TV . "He practically begged me not to call him and I understood his reasons. When we spoke he was visibly disappointed. "I gave him a few hours to think about it, but nothing changed. Osimhen had to make careful assessments on his injury and in the end, we decided not to call him and let it go. " Olympiakos Henry Onyekuru has replaced him in the team as preparations continue.
