AFCON: CAF Set Reward Player, Increases Prize Money Sampson Adedeji According to the report coming from CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, the football body is pondering on introducing an appearance fee to reward participating players, BSNsports.com.ng The statements was made by the president of the body Patrice Motsepe saying that they are already consulting on increasing the cash prize for the future winners of the African Cup of Nations. The current prize money of AFCON winner stands at $4.5 million, first runners-up $2.5 million, semi-finalists $2.0 million while quarter-finalists earn $1 million. “CAF is looking at introducing appearance fees to reward players for showing up at the AFCON. There are also discussions ongoing on increasing the prize money for the Champions”, he said. Algeria is the defending champions of the competition with Cameroon staging the next delayed edition in 2022.
