AFCON U23: Egypt set to dethrone Nigeria - Sobhi

By Sampson Adedeji

Egypt and Al Ahly winger Ramadan Sobhi has vowed that himself and his teammates are ready to displace Nigeria and be crowned the new champion of the U23 African Cup of Nations, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Egypt are set to host the 2019 U-23 AFCON between November 8 and November 22 in Cairo. The top three teams of the tournament secure a spot in the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics, BSN reports

With just one week ahead of the start of the tournament, national team captain Ramadan Sobhi talked about his side’s goals and ambitions.

" I hope that luck will be on our side. The players and the coaching staff are all ready to face the best eight teams in Africa.

"Players feel the responsibility and we’re talking among each other about winning the tournament. We don’t need any player or anyone to motivate us.

"I hope to see a large number of fans supporting us in the stands, as my teammates and I didn’t have the chance to frequently play in front of a crowd.

I promise the fans that we will do our best to achieve our goals,” he concluded.

Nigeria Dream Team VII will hope to successfully defend the trophy won by Dream Team VI in 2015.
