AFCON U23: Olympic Eagles' opponent South Africa suffers defeat

Ahead of the U23 African Cup of Nations in Egypt, Dream Team VII opponent South Africa on Wednesday suffered a 1-0 loss to Egyptian premier league side zamalek, BSNSports.com.ng can report.

 In preparation for the tournament, the South Africa played friendly against one of Egyptian football power house, Zamalek but lost 0-1 to the club.

The first-half was 32-minutes long, while the second-half was 35 minutes due to the lack of substitutions  in the South Africa squad.

Both sides have had a slow start to the game as they failed to find the back of the net during the first-half. Zamalek continued their high pressing during the second-half and opened the scoring thanks to Achraf Bencharki’s strike.

Mostafa Fathi, who came on in the second-half, provided Karim ‘Bambo’ with an assist in the dying moments of the game.

South Africa’s opening game will be against Zambia on November 9th, before facing Ivory Coast and Nigeria on the 12th and the 15th
