AFN President optimistic of more athletics Olympic qualifying spots

President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Olamide George has expressed confidence in the crop of players in the country, BSNSports.com.ng gathered. He said he believes the country has the pedigree of athletes that can secure more Olympic qualification spots ahead of the World relays in Poland next month. Speaking in a chat with Brila.net, George said the AFN has the support of the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports, the Federal Government as well we the Nigeria Olympic Commission to prepare and succeed at the fast-approaching Tokyo Olympics later this year. He added that he is sure the qualification pool of the AFN will increase from its current 7 spots that have been sealed. “We have the support of the ministry, we have the support of the Federal Government, we have the support of the NOC to prepare our athletes for the Olympics," "Hopefully, Nigeria will have a better outing this year because of the crop of athletes we are having now we have never had this opportunity, and we must maximize it and have good results in the Olympics." "So we are looking at our strength in the world relay which will come up in Poland and before Poland we must train as a team and this is our strength, this is our area where I think we will qualify.”
